Testing laboratory

DESTRUCTIVE TESTING

    • Destructive testing laboratory has been established on the basis of the
Tallinn Machine Building Factory's (TMT)
and its long-term production experience makes it possible to obtain the most objective results as soon as possible. In our laboratory we carry out the following types of destructive tests to verify the quality of welds and the base metal:
  • Metal hardness measurement
  • Static tension test
  • Low-temperature static tension test
  • charpy impact test
  • static bending test
  • Low-temperature static bending test
  • NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING

TMT Laboratory provides to industrial enterprises non-destructive testing (NDT) services for welds, castings, rolled products and forgings made of various grades of steel and alloys. We carry out quality control and assessment in accordance with European (EN) and International standards (ISO) using the following NDT types:
    • Visual and dimensional inspection in accordance with EN 13018:2016
    • Ultrasonic inspection of welds in accordance with ISO 17640:2018
    • Ultrasonic inspection of the base metal in accordance with EN 10160:1999 and EN 10228-3:2016
    • Ultrasonic thickness measurement in accordance with ISO 16809: 2017
    • X-ray inspection of welds in accordance with ISO 17636-1: 2013
    • X-ray inspection of casting in accordance with EN 12681-1: 2017
    • Magnetic-particle inspection in accordance with ISO 9934-1: 2016
    • Liquid penetrant inspection in accordance with ISO 3452-1: 2013
Highly qualified specialists certified for level II and III in accordance with ISO 9712:2012 carry out the supervision. They can carry out non-destructive testing both in the TMT laboratory and on the customer's site within Estonia and the EU countries.

    CHEMICAL ANALYSIS

Inspection of metal and welds is the most critical manufacturing stage for all industrial products. Verification of the properties and characteristics of materials serves as determinant during the products manufacturing process.TMT Laboratory performs the following tests for welds, metals, and alloys:
  • steel grade and chemical content analysis
  • inter-crystalline corrosion exposure test (ICC)
  • metallographical studies (macroscopy, microscopy, spot size measurement, nonmetallic inclusions detection)
  • basic metal surface roughness analysis
